Clinical Evaluation of Treatment with Single Dose Fluconazole in Patients with Vaginal Candidiasis


Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of single dose bis-triazoleFluconazole therapy on vaginal candidiasis.
A clinical survey of single dose fluconazole(150mg) therapy for vaginal candidiasis has been made on 35 patients from January, 1991 to June, 1991.
The results were as follows :
1. The age distribution was predominant between 20 and 39.(67%)
2. The most patients had one or two children.(69%)
3. The most offending organism was Candida albicans.(91%)
4. The negative culture rates were 91.5% at 1st check up(5-9 days follow up)and 88.5% at 2nd check up(4-6 weeks follow up).
5. After treatment, symptoms of pururitus, burning sensation, vaginal discharge and dysparenuria were eliminated in 94% of patients, 89%, 82% and 78%. After treatment, signs of vaginal erythema, cervical erosion, excoriation and vaginal discharge were eliminated in 93% of patients, 82% , 81% and 77%.
6. There was correlation between negative culture rate and therapeutic response of symptoms and signs.
7. There were no remarkable adverse effects in subjective symptoms and laboratory findings.
